Ionic compounds Most elements like to “hang out” to make them stable
They give up or gain electrons to form So they are less reactive. Ionic compounds Always contain a metal and non-metal The metal atom it’s valence electron to the non metal atom gives But…how are they held (bonded) together?? Metal Non-Metal CATION(positive charge) ANION(negative charge)

attracted Ionic bond). Ionic Bonds are and result in the following properties: very strong Soluble in water High melting/boiling points Conduct electricity when dissolved in water Hard and brittle Lattice structure
