Monday October 24th 2016. Pick up your spirals/folders, take out a pen/pencil and your bellwork. We will take notes, answer a few questions, then watch a video clip over a battle. Bellwork: What do you think? (Sentences!!!) What is a militia?

Voting Registration Continues: Deadline Nov 1st
It is understandable that some students don’t want to vote. EVERY student on voting day will be writing a 3 paragraph essay on your voting choice. Why did you choose to vote? Why did you choose not to vote? Do you think voting is important? Why/Why not? If you didn’t vote, will you ever in the future? Why/why not? If you did vote, will you continue to vote? Why/why not?

Takes place in two towns outside of Boston British Goals: Arrest colonial leaders (Adams and Hancock) seize a stockpile of colonial weapons Paul Revere and William Dawes warn the militias Minutemen (ready at a minute’s notice)

Lexington and Concord Lexington – 8 militia killed
Concord – militia exchange fire with British regulars at North Bridge British retreat to Boston Militias constantly attack them along the road Colonial militias surround Boston 2nd Continental Congress meets a month later

Philadelphia, May 1775 (Is this before or after Lexington/Concord?) John Adams, Ben Franklin, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington Appoint George Washington Commander of Continental Army Olive Branch Petition Congress asks King George to overrule Parliament and fix things. Issued by the 2nd Continental Congress – approved July 4, 1776 Purpose: explain reasons for independence Written by Thomas Jefferson – used ideas of John Locke Equality & unalienable rights List of grievances (reasons they’re separating) A slavery paragraph was taken out to ensure support of southern colonies Video/activity!!
