4 Taíno Indians The native population of Puerto Rico was the “Taínos” indians. They used to live in this little houses called “Bohíos” Art representing the “The Taíno Indians”

5 Puerto Rico Music: We love music like salsa, merengue, and other kinds of music that we have adopted from other neighbor islands. Now we are going to listen some merengue; music style from the Dominican Republic.

6 Puerto Rico Food: Our typical plate is “arroz con gandules” (rice with green pigeon peas), pork, especially on a stick, potato salad, pasteles, and flan. Flan tastes kind of like vanilla pudding.

9 Central America Food: Food and drink in Central America is representative of the diversity of its residents. Spanish, Creole, Garifuna and Indigenous cuisines all influence modern Central American food. Gallo pinto and pupusas are just some of the many examples. Coffee is also very important.

12 Mexico Food: Mexican cuisine is a style of food which is primarily a fusion of indigenous Mesoamerican cooking with European. The basic staples are the beans and chili peppers. Tamales are a traditional Mesoamerican dish made of masa (a starchy dough, usually corn- based), which is cooked in a leaf wrapper.

Philippines Philippines’ Flag Information about the Islands The Philippine Islands became a Spanish colony during the 16th century; they were ceded to the US in 1898 following the Spanish- American War. In 1935 the Philippines became a self-governing commonwealth. Manuel QUEZON was elected president and was tasked with preparing the country for independence after a 10-year transition. In 1942 the islands fell under Japanese occupation during World War II, and US forces and Filipinos fought together during to regain control. On 4 July the Republic of the Philippines attained its independence.
