2 (*EXCEPT the World Series vote)
Control & power Objective: Analyze how Kesey uses both descriptive language and literary imagery to characterize the struggle for power and control in Cuckoo’s Nest. Visually depict a scene in which we see this struggle playing out. This can be anything we have read about up until this point. (*EXCEPT the World Series vote) Annotate your illustrations with quotations (min. 2) that support an argument Kesey is making about POWER & CONTROL. 15 process points total

3 Thesis Practice!  Flip over your illustration…. And write a thesis on the back that explains what your image demonstrates about Kesey’s argument regarding power and control. Remember: A strong thesis contains a “what” + “how” + “so what”

4 Discussion Questions What is the relationship between Sefelt and Fredrickson? What does this represent? How does Chief feel about all the changes within the ward? What does this indicate? Are the rest of the patients committed? What is significant about McMurphy’s actions at the end of part 2?

5 What is Kesey’s purpose here?
McMurphy & Laughter Track the trajectory of McMurphy’s use of humor and laughter throughout the book up until this point. How do we see him using humor? Is this changing? If so, why? What is Kesey’s purpose here?
