In Brief Expertise in Information Security.
Within M.Sc. thesis (University College London, 2013) expertise in Blockchain began with examination of Bitcoin transaction flows. Blockchain experience has been both technical and socio-economic research which lead to FinTech and Digital Financial Services (DFS) research & practical expertise. Information Security & Blockchain intersects main themes: Cultural Design involves big data and data visualization Data Culture involves social relationships
3
Conference Themes Cultural Design: to visualize examples where design articulates and shapes multidisciplinary projects through big data, basic sciences, arts, health and neuroscience. Data Culture: projects and initiatives where open cultural data generate new forms of social relationship, of scientific promotion applied to education and culture.

Blockchain 101 Secure sequential storage of data
Security is based on cryptography Timestamped Built on model on consensus; participants must agree on blocks Data is verifiable by participants within network Public or Private While introduced as underlying technology for a form of value transfer or payment, it has application in various areas and industries FinTech & Digital Financial Services Shipping Supply Chain Management

Data Visualization

Blockchain What information is stored in blockchain?
Representations of identity What can be revealed via data analysis and visualization? Relationships Information Security and Privacy are key concepts in blockchain Anonymity? The concept of a Central Bank issued Digital Currency (CBDC) has been proposed with varying degrees of anonymity (zero to full) With increasing use of blockchain technology there may be need for appropriate Cultural Design considerations within such technology to ensure unintended consequences are not realized by data analysis and visualizations

Other unintended consequences
…found one graphic image of child porn and 274 links to content depicting child abuse stored within the bitcoin blockchain. Blockchains primarily enable credible accounting of digital events, e.g., money transfers in cryptocurrencies. However, beyond this original purpose, blockchains also irrevocably record arbitrary data, ranging from short messages to pictures. This does not come without risk for users as each participant has to locally replicate the complete blockchain, particularly including potentially harmful content. We provide the first systematic analysis of the benefits and threats of arbitrary blockchain content. Our analysis shows that certain content, e.g., illegal pornography, can render the mere possession of a blockchain illegal. A Quantitative Analysis of the Impact of Arbitrary Blockchain Content on Bitcoin by Matzutt et al

Blockchain Blockchain does have application in Cultural Design and Data Culture Has great potential but also hype Need to clearly define use cases and application where blockchain can improve existing methods What better ‘social relationship’ themed Data Culture project is there than saving the Earth?
9
Challenge Accepted?
10
Privacy within Data Culture
With concepts of big data and social relationships high on the agenda various themes integral within Information Security become important: Confidentiality Privacy Trust Privileged access Use for purpose Anonymity 3rd party sharing Trust is the foundation and currency of social relationships however trust can be misplaced
11
Trust Trust is the currency of social relationships; but trust can be misplaced and subsequently eroded, The social relationships of a networks of friends revealed private data users who trusted a system; the same system allowed for the sharing of data for academic purposes with certain users who then formed relationships with others to use that data in ways which were orginally unitended.
