2 Scene I Scene opens with the doctor and a gentlewoman
Lady Macbeth is sleepwalking Incessantly scrubbing her hands to get the “spots” off Continually talks of Lady Macduff and King Duncan She hears the knocking again Doctor states that she needs a priest more than a physician

3 Scene II Menteith, Caithness, Angus, Lennox, and soldiers enter talking Stated that English army is near, led by Malcolm, his uncle Siward, and Macduff All agree to go meet Malcolm Macbeth is fortifying his castle at Dunsinane People think he has gone crazy Those he commands move only in command, Nothing in love. State that his guilt drove him to madness

4 Scene III Servant enters saying there are 10,000 soldiers
Infuriates Macbeth Doctor tells him Lady Macbeth is sick with visions Demands that she be cured Claims medicine is for the dogs Puts armor on to prepare for battle Spends the scene ranting and raving like a madman

5 Scene IV Malcolm is marching up to the castle
Orders each soldier to break off a branch and hold it in front of him Conceals their true numbers Speaks of Macbeth’s army “And none serve with him but constrainèd things whose hearts are absent too.” Meaning? Siward knows they will only accomplish their goals by violence.

6 Scene v Macbeth notes that many of his soldiers joined the other side
Claims he does not remember what fear is Seyton comes in and tells Macbeth that Lady Macbeth is dead Popular thought is suicide Macbeth says, “She should have died hereafter. There would have been a time for such a word.” Messenger says he sees the trees of Birnam wood moving Macbeth dons his armor and prepares for battle

7 Scene vi Malcolm mandates that the branches are put down
Decides his Uncle Siward and his son will lead the first battle Prepare to strike

8 Scene vii Macbeth says he needs to fight like a bear
States he is only afraid of man not born of woman Young Siward enters Claims he hates Macbeth’s name more than any other They fight and Young Siward is killed Macduff enters and swears he will fight Macbeth or no one at all Malcolm and Old Siward say castle has been surrendered with no fight

9 Scene viii Macbeth talks about suicide Macduff enters to fight Macbeth
Macbeth is not scared Thinks Macduff is born of woman Macduff says, “Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother’s womb untimely ripped.” Caesarian Section Macduff slays Macbeth Malcolm crowned King of England
