2 WHAT PROBLEM ARE WE SOLVING?
What skills do you want your students to have? Students need: Less memorization and more application More technology skills More learning experiences and fewer tests More chances to be problem solvers More opportunities to collaborate Students need: Less Memorization and more Application More technology skills More learning experiences and less tests To be problem solvers More opportunities to collaborate

3 Competency A transferable skill that can be applied in different content areas (and in life!)

4 Performance Assessment
“Performance assessments are multi-step assignments with clear criteria, expectations and processes which measure how well a student transfers knowledge and applies complex skills to create or refine an original product and/or solution.”(NH PACE)

5 A way for students to demonstrate competence in a real-world task.

7 WHY COMPETENCY- BASED EDUCATION? We understand students can
TEACH STUDENTS THE SKILLS THEY NEED TO SUCCEED AND TRACK THEIR PROGRESS ON THESE SKILLS THROUGH THE YEAR. We understand students can struggle the first time they are asked to do something. Direct feedback and just-in-time interventions are real possibilities in CBE curriculum.

8 PERFORMANCE TASK RUBRIC
HOW DO WE ASSESS WHAT THEY LEARNED? RIGOR RELEVANCE READABILITY Does this assessment reach DOK Level 3 or Are the skills learned Do students through the content understand what they transferable to real are being asked to DOK Level 4? world applications? perform? PERFORMANCE TASK RUBRIC

9 RUBRIC TUNING WHAT WE DO
Build in rigor and depth of knowledge Student-friendly language WHAT Quality over quantity. More does not equal better WE DO Content based on product (or behavior-based)
