Titrations
2
Titrations What are they?
Process used to find the concentration of an acid or base when you have a known concentration of the other. 0.85 M NaOH ? M HCl
3
What is the formula? MA x VA = MB x VB
The above formula only works when the mole ratio of acid to base is 1:1 in the balanced equation Ex) HCl + NaOH H2O + NaCl The above example shows a strong acid with a strong base reacting to form ____________ and a ________________. Seem familiar?
4
Chemists call these ___________________ reactions.
What pH value would the products have? How do we know we have reached the endpoint of a titration (also called the equivalence point)? (video)
6
Ex) 1 In a titration, 27.4 mL M solution of barium hydroxide is needed to neutralize 20.0 mL of hydrochloric acid. What was the concentration of the acid solution?
7
Ex) 2 32.00 g of sodium hydroxide were dissolved in mL of solution to prepare the titrant mL of sulfuric acid were titrated with above titrant. It took mL of sodium hydroxide solution to titrate to the end point. What is the molarity of the sulfuric acid?
