Intermediate Spanish (8th grade)

2 8th: Intermediate Spanish
This is the 2nd half of the High School course. Students receive a high school Spanish 1 credit Final grade will be an average of 7th and 8th grade Spanish. This grade will appear on High School transcripts unless you choose not to at semester.

3 7th: Beginning Spanish This is a year-long course. It is the 1st half of the High School Spanish 1 course. Students with an 80% average (all 4 quarters) and are motivated to continue, are eligible to take 8th grade Intermediate Spanish and receive a high school Foreign Language credit.

4 Curriculum Goals: The student will be able to:
Interpret written and spoken Spanish, Use their Spanish to present information about themselves and also exchange information with others, Have knowledge of Spanish-speaking countries and Hispanic Heritage of the U.S. Compare and contrast their language and culture to those of Hispanic countries. Reinforce and further their knowledge of Language Arts, Geography, World History, and more!

5 Expectations: Have class materials: portfolio, textbook, earphones, etc.(see syllabus). Study at home (5-10 daily) so you can participate in class and prepare for assessments. (See How to Study sheet) Actively participate in class and give their best effort! Complete work on time with good effort. Late credit (75%) is often offered. Remediate and Retake quizzes when scoring below a 75%. Use class website to access online textbook and stay up-to-date on: learning goals, homework, assessments, and resources. Monitor progress by checking HAC and reviewing learning goals. This way you know how you are doing and what needs to be done to be successful!

6 How to Study Take advantage of class time! Be prepared and participate. Don’t wait for the test. Studying weekly is THE BEST way to succeed. Review vocab, grammar notes, and portfolio. Go to our class website and stay up-to-do date on class * Quiz yourself on your knowledge. * Log on to textbook for practice. * Watch video tutorials. *Play review games and take practice quizzes. * Have someone at home quiz you or give someone a mini-lesson (extra credit points! - you can earn up to 5 points per quarter  ). Review learning goals and Student Objectives sheet “How to Study” sheet has different options for review. Find what works! Don’t make excuses! Make an action plan for improvement and work harder.

* These check progress toward our standards and monitor student learning. For ex.- vocab work, writing assignments, cultural reflections, progress monitoring work, bell work, group work and skits, homework to reinforce classwork (take home assignments are usually 5-10 min. in length plus any study time) Summative 60% * These evaluate student learning and achievement of state standards. For ex.: quiz, test, final project or presentation

8 Monitoring your child’s progress
Grades are posted online, parents have access to grades as soon as grades are posted, through the Home Access Center (HAC) To register and use Home Access Center, follow the instructions on the Gamble Rogers webpage.
