Don’t panic. You are well-prepared
CSA is a good trial run May 2-3, 8-11, 16-17, 19, 22-23 Take the preparation seriously and treat the patients in the lab as you normally treat patients.
3
Step 2 CS: 3 components Integrated Clinical Encounter
Data gathering Documentation (or note) scored by physicians Communication and Interpersonal Skills SP scored Spoken English Proficiency (SP scored) Must pass all three to pass exam
4
Post-Encounter Note Format
5
Post-Encounter Note Data Interpretation
Based on what you have learned from the history and physical examination, list up to 3 diagnoses that might explain this patient’s complaint(s) List your diagnoses from most to least likely For some cases, fewer than 3 diagnoses will be appropriate Then, enter the positive or negative findings from the history and physical examination (if present) that support each diagnosis Lastly, list initial diagnostic studies (if any) you would order for each listed diagnosis For example: restricted physical exam maneuvers, laboratory tests, imaging or ECG

Feedback before taking the exam
If you plan on taking Step II CS in late May or June, you need to check in with Dr. Shaw before taking the exam Everyone who scores in the bottom 15% of the class on the CSA will have to meet with Dr. Shaw You have to finish your clerkships before you can take the exam CSA will be scored like the CS so it is good feedback Don’t schedule your exams back to back (CS and CK)
