Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah
7
Guide me O Thou great Jehovah Pilgrim through this barren land
I am weak but Thou art mighty Hold me with Thou powerful hand Bread of heaven Bread of heaven Feed me till I want no more
8
Open now the crystal fountain Whence the healing stream doth flow
Let the fire and cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey through Strong Deliverer Strong Deliverer Be Thou still my strength and shield
9
When I tread the verge of Jordan Bid my anxious fears subside
Bear me through the swelling current Land me safe on Canaan’s side Songs of praises Songs of praises I will ever give to Thee
10
Footsteps of Jesus
11
Have we heard Thee calling Thy footprints falling
Sweetly Lord Have we heard Thee calling Come follow me And we see where Thy footprints falling Lead us to Thee
12
That make the pathway glow
Footprints of Jesus That make the pathway glow We will follow The steps of Jesus Where’er they go
13
The cold dark mountains Or along by Siloam's fountains
Tho' they lead o'er The cold dark mountains Seeking His sheep Or along by Siloam's fountains Helping the weak
14
That make the pathway glow
Footprints of Jesus That make the pathway glow We will follow The steps of Jesus Where’er they go
15
If they lead Thro' the temple holy Preaching the Word Or in homes Of the poor and lowly Serving the Lord
16
That make the pathway glow
Footprints of Jesus That make the pathway glow We will follow The steps of Jesus Where’er they go
17
We will rest where the steps Of Jesus end at His throne
Then at last When on high He sees us Our journey done We will rest where the steps Of Jesus end at His throne
18
That make the pathway glow

How Great Thou Art The Singing Saints
28
Jesus, the Son of God The Gospel of Mark current sermon series
29
Mark 6:7–13 And He was going around the villages teaching. 7 And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits; 8 and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff—no bread, no bag, no money in their belt— 9 but to wear sandals; and He added, “Do not put on two tunics.”
30
Mark 6:7–13 10 And He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town. 11 Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.”
31
Mark 6:7–13 12 They went out and preached that men should repent. 13 And they were casting out many demons and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them.
32
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
Getting involved in the work of advancing Christ’s Kingdom is kind of like having a baby. If you wait until you are ready, you will never get started.
33
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
“A genuine call to ministry always calls us to that for which we are not adequately prepared. It is only in awareness of such that the Christian experiences the presence and promise of Jesus Christ, and learns to depend not on human capabilities but on [Christ] and the power of the proclamation to authenticate itself” (Edwards, 183).
34
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
He sends the disciples on a trial, short-term mission trip designed to teach them to rely on the power and will of God.
35
Sermon in a Sentence To advance Christ’s Kingdom: 1) we must go as a team and in His authority (6b–7); 2) we must rely on God to provide for our needs (8–9); 3) we must leave the results to God (10–11), and 4) we must preach the need for repentance and do the work of the Kingdom (12–13).
36
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
1. We must go as a team and in His authority (6b–7).
37
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
It is encouraging to know Jesus uses the disciples in spite of their record. They have impeded Jesus’ mission (1:36–39), become exasperated with Him (4:38; 5:31), and even opposed Him (3:21).
38
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
God uses mission teams for key reasons: we were not made to live as islands but in community with others
39
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
God uses mission teams for key reasons: we were not made to live as islands but in community with others going as a team provides a broader range of gifts and abilities
40
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
God uses mission teams for key reasons: we were not made to live as islands but in community with others going as a team provides a broader range of gifts and abilities going as a team also helps ensure accountability
41
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
Everyone wants to be successful, and when we go solo, we are tempted to either abandon the mission when it gets difficult or change the message of the gospel to ensure we appear successful.
42
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
“The twelve are not sent to do a new work, but to continue and extend the work begun by Jesus.” The emphasis is “not on innovation but the full representation of the One who commissioned them” (Edwards, 179).
43
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
Going as a team helps us accurately represent Jesus by not relying on ourselves, but upon God who builds the team and gives the harvest.
44
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
The team helps ensure accountability, and Christ’s authority gives us confidence that we represent a King and a Kingdom that Satan cannot destroy.
45
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
2. We must rely on God to provide for our needs (8–9).
46
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
The items symbolically declare the disciples are ambassadors of a new and greater exodus – they come with the commission of the King who frees His people from their sins and death.
47
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
The items the disciples are allowed to take on their mission to Israel (a tunic, belt, sandals, and the staff in their hand) are the exact items the Israelites were allowed to take during their escape from slavery in Egypt. (Exod 12:11)
48
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
“We must not place [our] trust in [our] supplies and training but rather in the One who sends [us]” (Edwards, 181).
49
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
The people to whom we are going must see that our dependence is upon Christ who sends us.
50
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
3. We must leave the results to God (10–11).
51
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
“Do not dishonor the kindness of a lesser home by moving to a nicer one and thereby become an offense to the gospel” (Akin, 125).
52
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
We must be content with God’s provision so people may clearly see the Christ we proclaim.
53
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
Rejection of Jesus is a rejection of the one true God.
54
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
Jesus eliminates, “the presumption of salvation on the basis of ethnicity, nation, or race. ‘For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel’” (Rom 9:6) (Edwards).
55
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
When we go with the gospel alone as our hope, we can be assured that the people are not rejecting us, but Christ.
56
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
4. We must preach the need for repentance and do the work of the Kingdom (12–13).
57
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
We must not only live in dependence upon God; we must also proclaim dependence upon God and work in dependence upon His power.
58
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
“The time has come.…The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15) -Jesus
59
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
The church must live as those who are truly depending upon Christ, and we must preach dependence upon Christ for life, meaning, purpose, and salvation as our only hope.
60
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
When we live on mission in dependence upon God, His power freely flows through us to overcome demonic opposition and advance His Kingdom.
61
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
The message we preach and the work we do must come from the power and authority of the King who is sending us.
62
Advance the Kingdom: Depend on Christ!
“Everything, even the poverty and simplicity of the messenger, indeed even the courage to be rejected, must conform to the Word that affirms that God is infinitely more important than all else” (Edwards, 183).

Wherever He Leads I’ll Go
65
Take up Thy cross and follow Me I heard my Master say
I gave my life to ransom Thee Surrender your all today
66
Wherever He leads I'll go
I'll follow my Christ Who loves me so

And in that will I now abide Wherever He leads I'll go

69
It may be through the shadows dim I take the cross and follow Him
Or o'er the stormy sea I take the cross and follow Him Wherever He leadeth me
70
Wherever He leads I'll go
I'll follow my Christ Who loves me so
