Some of the Issues Found with 802.15.4
12 November 2003 Some of the Issues Found with Ambiguities in the standard that need to be resolved Unnecessary complexity (such as mandatory implementation of GTS for FFDs) creates unnecessary overhead/cost for some applications The association time in non-beacon networks is too long for some applications Security key use is inflexible Multicast is not supported by the MAC but is desired for many applications MAC headers and beacon payloads could create significant overhead Pat Kinney, Kinney Consulting LLC

Proposed additional capabilities for 802.15.4
12 November 2003 Proposed additional capabilities for PHY/MAC layer shared time base distribution method Support for new frequency allocations in Europe Support for new frequency allocations in China Use a 2.4 GHz PHY derivative for the lower frequency bands to yield higher data rate and simplify the design of multi-band devices Pat Kinney, Kinney Consulting LLC
