4 The Book of Job Our Goal We try to understand as much as possible, not only why we live in a world of evil, but more important, how we are to live in such a world.

6 The Wrath of Elihu The Book of Job Lesson 10, December 3
Ang Galit ni Elihu

7 The Wrath of Elihu Key Text Isaiah 55:9 NKJV “ ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than yours, and My thoughts that your thoughts.’ ” Susing Talata.

8 The Wrath of Elihu Initial Words The battle of words goes on between Job and these three men, words that at times are profound, beautiful, deep, and true. They just didn’t say them in the right place, at the right time, in the right circumstances. The problem was going to get worse because, instead of just three people telling him he’s wrong, a new one comes on the scene. Panimulang Salita.

9 1. Miserable Comforters (Job 32:1-3)
The Wrath of Elihu Quick Look 1. Miserable Comforters (Job 32:1-3) 2. Irrationality of Evil (Ezekiel 28:15, 16) 3. Challenge of Faith (1 Corinthians 13:12, 13) 1. Mga Di-sapat na Mang-aaliw (Job 32:1-3) 2. Pagkadi-makatwiran ng Kasamaan (Ezekiel 28:15, 16) 3. Hamon ng Pananampalataya (1 Corinto 13:12, 13)

10 The Wrath of Elihu 1. Miserable Comforters Job 32:1-3 NKJV “So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. Then the wrath of Elihu... was aroused against Job...because he justified himself rather than against God. Also against his three friends...because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.” 1.

11 None of them, including Job,
1. Miserable Comforters The Entrance of Elihu None of them, including Job, understood all that was going on. They were speaking from a very limited perspective, which all humans have. We need humility when we profess to talk about God and His workings. We might know a lot of truth, but we might not necessarily know the best way to apply the truths that we know.

12 For the next six chapters, Elihu
1. Miserable Comforters The Entrance of Elihu Elihu obviously heard some of the long discussions. Four times his “wrath” had been kindled over what he had heard. For the next six chapters, Elihu seeks to give his understanding and explanation of the issues that all these men confronted because of the calamity that struck Job.

13 1. Miserable Comforters Elihu’s Defense of God Elihu seems largely to be giving the same arguments that the three had in their attempt to defend the character of God against the charge of unfair-ness in regard to the sufferings of Job. We can see with Elihu, the fear that God is not what they think Him to be. They want to believe in the goodness and the justice and the power of God; Ang Pagtatanggol ni Elihu sa Diyos. Kalakhang tila nagbibigay si Elihu ng katulad na pangangatwiran na meron ang tatlo sa pagtatangka nilang ipagtanggol ang karakter ng Diyos laban sa bintang ng kawalang-katarungan tungkol sa mga pagdurusa ni Job. ¶ Makikita natin kay Elihu, ang takot na ang Diyos ay hindi yung iniisip nila tungkol sa Kanya. Gusto nilang maniwala sa kabutihan at katarungan at kapangyarihan ng Diyos;

14 1. Miserable Comforters Elihu’s Defense of God and so, what does Elihu do but utter truths about the goodness, the justice, and the power of God? Then the only logical conclusion is that Job is getting what he deserves. What else could it be? Elihu, then, was trying to protect his own understanding of God in the face of such terrible evil befalling such a good man as Job. at kaya, anong ginagawa ni Elihu kundi bigkasin ang mga katotohanan tungkol sa kabutihan, katarungan, at kapangyarihan ng Diyos?

15 Therefore...I destroyed you, O covering cherub....’ ”
The Wrath of Elihu 2. Irrationality of Evil Ezekiel 28:15, 16 NKJV “ ‘You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you. By the abundance of your trading you became filled with violence within, and you sinned. Therefore...I destroyed you, O covering cherub....’ ” 2. ” (Ezekiel 28:15, 16).

16 2. Irrationality of Evil A Dilemma “It is impossible to explain the origin of sin so as to give a reason for its existence.... Sin is an intruder, for whose presence no reason can be given. It is mysterious, unaccountable; to excuse it is to defend it. Could excuse for it be found, or cause be shown for its existence, it would cease to be sin.”—The Great Controversy 492, 493. Isang Problema.

17 There is a good reason that Job and
2. Irrationality of Evil A Dilemma There is a good reason that Job and his friends can’t make sense of it: evil itself doesn’t make sense. If we could understand it, if it made sense, if it fit into some logical and rational plan, then it wouldn’t be that evil, it wouldn’t be that tragic, because it would serve a rational purpose.

18 2. Irrationality of Evil A Dilemma Here’s a perfect being, created by a perfect God, in a perfect environment. He’s exalted, full of wisdom, perfect in beauty, covered in precious stones, an “anointed cherub” who was in the “holy mountain of God.” Yet, even with all that and having been given so much, this being corrupted himself and allowed evil to take over.

19 The Wrath of Elihu 3. Challenge of Faith 1 Corinthians 13:12, 13 NKJV “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith....” 3. (1 Corinto 13:12, 13).

20 to him? How do we understand this?
3. Challenge of Faith To Trust God As we saw, far from his evil bringing this suffering to him, it was precisely Job’s goodness that caused God to point him out to the devil. So, the man’s goodness and desire to be faithful to God led this to happen to him? How do we understand this?

21 3. Challenge of Faith To Trust God Job didn’t volunteer to be the guinea pig. Who would? So, how fair was all this to Job and to his family. Meanwhile, even though God won His challenge with the devil, we know the devil has not conceded defeat (Rev. 12:12); so, what was the purpose?

22 3. Challenge of Faith To Trust God And also, whatever good ultimately came out of what happened to Job, was it worth the death of all these people and all the suffering that Job went through?

23 We don’t live by faith when everything
3. Challenge of Faith To Trust God One of the most important lessons: that of living by faith and not by sight; that of trusting in God and staying faithful to Him even when we cannot explain why things happen as they do. We don’t live by faith when everything is fully explained; only when we trust and obey God, even when we cannot make sense of what is happening. live by faith not by sight Isa sa mga mahahalagang liksyon: yung namumuhay sa pamamagitan ng pananampalataya at hindi sa pamamagitan ng nakikita; yung nagtitiwala sa Diyos at nananatiling tapat sa Kanya kahit kapag hindi natin maipaliwanag kung bakit nangyayari nang ganito ang mga bagay.

24 Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing 100, 101.
Final Words Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing 100, 101. “When we take into our hands the management of things with which we have to do, and depend upon our own wisdom for success, we are taking a burden which God has not given us.... But when we really believe that God... means to do us good we shall cease to worry about the future. ... Then our troubles and torments will disappear....” Huling Pananalita. From the Mount of Blessing 100, 101.
