THE JOURNEY FINDING TRUE PURPOSE
2
EVERYTHING IS MEANINGLESS
3
1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king of Jerusalem:
2 ‘Meaningless! Meaningless!’ says the Teacher. ‘Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.’ Ecclesiastes 1:1-2
4
9 What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. 10 Is there anything of which one can say, ‘Look! This is something new’? Ecclesiastes 1:9-11
5
It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time
It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. 11 No one remembers the former generations, and even those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow them. Ecclesiastes 1:9-11
6
Everything Is Meaningless
Nothing ever really changes
7
“I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” Ecclesiastes 1:14
8
Everything Is Meaningless
Nothing ever really changes Then you die
9
14 The wise have eyes in their heads, while the fool walks in the darkness; but I came to realise that the same fate overtakes them both. 15 Then I said to myself, ‘The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being wise?’ Ecclesiastes 2:14-16
10
I said to myself, ‘This too is meaningless
I said to myself, ‘This too is meaningless.’ 16 For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered; the days have already come when both have been forgotten. Like the fool, the wise too must die! Ecclesiastes 2:14-16
11
18 I also said to myself, ‘As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: as one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 3:18-22
12
20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?’ 22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them? Ecclesiastes 3:18-22
13
Everything Is Meaningless
Nothing ever really changes Then you die So enjoy your life! …While you can
14
LIKE LITERALLY… EVERYTHING
15
Like literally… Everything
Wisdom, foolishness, pleasure and work are all meaningless
16
13 Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows how to heed a warning. 14 The youth may have come from prison to the kingship, or he may have been born in poverty within his kingdom. 15 I saw that all who lived and walked under the sun followed the youth, the king’s successor. 16 There was no end to all the people who were before them. But those who came later were not pleased with the successor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Ecclesiastes 4:13-16
17
10 Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. 11 As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owners except to feast their eyes on them? Ecclesiastes 5:10-11
18
15 In this meaningless life of mine I have seen both of these:
the righteous perishing in their righteousness, and the wicked living long in their wickedness. 16 Do not be over-righteous, neither be overwise – why destroy yourself? Ecclesiastes 7:15-17
19
17 Do not be overwicked, and do not be a fool – why die before your time? 18 It is good to grasp the one and not let go of the other. Whoever fears God will avoid all extremes. Ecclesiastes 7:15-17
20
Like literally… Everything
Wisdom, foolishness, pleasure and work are all meaningless So is advancement, wealth, and more! We should not look for purpose here
21
EVERYTHING… BUT GOD
22
12 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, ‘I find no pleasure in them’– Ecclesiastes 12:1
23
Everything… But God He remembers what is like to live for God
Only Jesus lived for a relationship with God, but He gave it up at the cross
24
13 Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. 14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
25
Everything… But God He remembers what is like to live for God
Only Jesus lived for a relationship with God, but He gave it up at the cross We can fear God and obey Him properly
