What we are Oaxaca is important for Mexico because it was the home of one of the first Zapotec communities. THE GREAT "TULE" TREE The "Tule" is a cypress with one of the largest trunks in the world. It is an "Ahuehuete", with a circumference of about 58m, a height of 42m and a diameter of 14.05m; its volume is estimated at 816,829m, weighing about 363 tons. It is located in the atrium of the church of Santa Maria del Tule in Oaxaca, Mexico. DID YOU KNOW THAT… -The Tule tree is dying because of the pollution. Its age is unknown, but it´s estimated that at least is 2000 years or more The hilltop ruins of Monte Alban are the second largest ceremonial sites in Mesoamerica. The first known buildings were constructed between b. C. but most of these are now destroyed. ZAPOTECS KINGDOM: MONTE ALBAN Monte Alban is an archeological site located 10km from the city of Oaxaca and is considered the main attraction as far as archeology is considered in the state of Oaxaca. This archeological site was long the seat of the dominant power in the region of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, from the decline of San Jose Mogote to sunset of the city, it occurred around the ninth century. Throughout its history, the maintained strong ties with other people of great importance in Mesoamerica, especially Teotihuacan, Early Classic.
