unless otherwise noted: T»4K
The basic phenomena …quench the sample from high T… …slow relaxation… Samples are thin films of crystalline or amorphous indium-oxide, disorder-tuned to be in the hopping regime unless otherwise noted: T»4K Robertson and Wilkes, Polymer, 42, 1581 (2001) In2O3-x
3
…more ways to get it out of equilibrium...
…apply large source-drain field… …change gate voltage… Gold film Sio2 cover-glass indium-oxide film …or raise temperature…
4
…one more way to get it out of equilibrium... electromagnetic radiation
…zap it with light… …just like changing gate voltage… …not all photons are born equal…

Dynamics – how is measured
The Two-Dip Experiment t …one way to estimate t... G* amorphous indium-oxide [PRL, 81, 669 (1998)] All samples with SIMILAR resistance
10
Dynamics – measured differently
…as function of temperature…
11
Dynamics …as function of n…
12
The relaxation rate of the electron glass is:
Either T independent or it slows down with T (in contrast with classical glasses) T dependence diminishes with G* (determined by n) AOTBE – the larger G* is, the slower is the relaxation rate
