3 Describe how the author got the idea to write the story.
The author R.J Palacio has experienced through seeing many kids who suffer through something called “severe Facial deformity” which makes them look different from other kids, sometimes we just have to show empathy on how it’s like to walk in their shoes. Just like in the video R.J. Palacio had simply had her own experience where she met outside of an ice cream shop with this little girl who had “Severe facial deformity”. It happened as her younger son just as she imagined cried out loud when he looked at the girl, it was really awful for the author and the little girl who probably got her feelings hurt. Just as in the video it says “we reacted as a family what I could be teaching others,” this shows me how the author had experienced in her own life facing someone like Auggie and how it felt. Especially the song by Natalie Merchant, it just happened that the author soon began writing that night, and where the book took her.

4 Three Facts From Interview/Article with R.J. Palacio
R.J. Palacio go the idea of the book from a disturbing moment when his son saw a girl with “Treacher-Collins Syndrome”. This made her think or start to make the book “Wonder”. “This got Palacio thinking about what it must be like for that little girl to face the world each day”. I learned that there is a difference from being friendly and choosing to be kind. In the article, it describes Summer and Charlotte. Summer chose to be kind, since at first she saw Auggie was all alone at lunch. Then, she learned that Auggie was a normal kid, and awesome too. But Charlotte was only friendly to him when Auggie was around. She didn’t become good friends like Summer did. I never knew that this meant too many people, since I never knew there were people out there with facial differences. I thought everyone looked the same but with little differences. The article explains responses from people who loved what the book was telling them-choosing kindness. Now, I know that choosing kindness is better than being a bully.

5 Do you think Wonder will help children be better understanding and empathetic like R.J Palacio hopes? Wonder is a great book about Auggie who is also suffering from the bullying and unkindness he receives from other children. Children who read this book will somehow relate to themselves saying “Hmm, have I ever showed kindness and respect to a kid who also didn’t look ordinary”? Just like in the Thank you Note in her blog that R.J Palacio received her hope is that children who read wonder will better understand the feelings and understandings of treating the way people are and understand what they are going through, em: bullying because their face looks different from the other kids. Auggie meets friends, this encourages other kids to also make friends who don’t look ordinary, each kid should be treated with kindness and respect no matter how ugly they are.

6 Why do you think R.J Palacio calls Nathaniel her real-life Auggie?
After reading Nataniel’s letter it was totally AWESOME! I read that he was born with something called “Treacher-Collins Syndrome” it just happens so while you’re in your Momma's Belly. I heard he loves pizza, Minecraft, annoying brother I think he is just overdoing it as an ordinary kid. I see he wants kids to truly see himself, he said “Last thing… Kids like me sometimes have a hard time at new schools. Because I look so different kids stare and say mean things sometimes. If you wouldn’t mind, please don’t do that. It makes me sad and I’d much rather have fun with you than be sad.” This tells me Nathaniel is a very ordinary kid, even though he looks different I think R.J Palacio thinks of him as special, because to me he stands up to his future 5th grade students, and he is not afraid to express and talk about himself. He is like Auggie never stops to share and always stands-up when he needs to say something. He is a STRONG kid inside.

7 After watching the video, write the message, or lesson, it shares with viewers.
Every kid deserves to be treated respectfully, every kid is always beautiful on the inside. Every kid who looks different deserves their time of the year to not be bullied and be who they are. You should always be proud of who you are. Just like the video, the kids share what syndrome they have and who they are, most importantly throughout their time in the Retreat they are very happy. “No matter who you are and what you look like, you can just be yourself” said by one of the video people. This tells me and to the viewers that every kid who is different are to be happy with how they look and who they are, they are afraid to show their face to others, because they share something in common. And remember it’s not what you look like, it’s who you are. Look at comment, o

8 Children’s Craniofacial Association
Treacher Collins Syndrome- Treacher Collins syndrome is a condition that affects the development of bones and other tissues of the face. Pfeiffer Syndrome- Gives Abnormalities of the hands as wide thumbs and and Big toes. Treacher Collins Syndrome Pfeiffer Syndrome

9 My Favorite and Most Important Theme
Perseverance; The theme is Perseverance because Auggie Pullman never gave up on his school life and kept going to school. He kept playing with other kids who liked him and he continued to have fun. He didn’t let his face and and the people around him to judge how he looks. He is a determined kid. For example in the Movie I saw Aggie being teased in his back by Jack, a boy who was actually kind to him in the first place. But now it doesn’t stop him, summer sits with him, and he just cheers himself up and keep on having fun as a normal kid.- Lucy Respect anybody no matter what they look like/Don’t Judge a Person By It’s Face I think my most favorite and important theme respect anybody no matter what they look like. Since, Summer saw Auggie was sitting alone at lunch one day. Then she came over and they became friends. Later, Summer realized that everybody has feelings. Plus, that Auggie was just like a kid like her, no matter how he looked like. So, them at their end of the year field trip, Auggie and Summer met some looking for trouble sven graders. Suddenly, some of the bullies of Auggie came to help. They too, realize he’s a cool kid (they won the battle together), even though he looked different.

10 My Kindness Quote in Wonder:
When given the choice to be right or kind, choose kind. I defend my choice because in Wonder many characters have been taught a lesson they go across, Auggie Pullman and the bullies he met, they all learned a lesson and kindness was what they didn’t achieve towards Auggie. Just like in the Movie, Mr.Brown even said this quote in his lesson “When given the choice to be right or kind, choose kind”. No matter how perfect and talented you are, there’s always a reason to respect others. Why? Because anyone can only feel a touch in their heart from your kindness.

11 PSA Question: The PSA sends to the viewers what they are fighting for and teaching to the viewers. Like in one of the example Internet Safety, based on what I watched it taught me about Internet safety with the screen players doing a little act on how they are going to deal with Internet Safety and with a pledge. They want you to think more and be more concerned of what they are concerned about, like the homeless kids, they want you to think more of those in need. It’s a Call for Action! PSA EXAMPLE 1 : You should be more concerned about those kids in need, you need to help fight for those hungry kids, show kindness for those below you. PSA EXAMPLE 2: A skit: Be more aware of Internet Safety for your kids, they will pass it on to teach about online Safety and what’s appropriate and smart for them to go on. Being aware of what around you. PSA Message: Don’t judge someone by it’s face be kind and show more Empathy! Every kid has his or her inner glow

12 PSA PSA Message: Bullying and Isolation is a problem! SCRIPT:
Have you ever seen someone being bullied or isolated? Well many people are treated differently, by what they think the person is. By being name called, pushed, and made fun of. These people could be physically hurt or hurt with their feelings. Many of the people, they can fit in and not be bullied. But, People do not see them in the inside they judge them just because they are different. If they could put themselves in their shoes, and see how the world faces them. We have to show empathy, for the ones are put down, hurted. Sometimes when you face the world, the world doesn’t know how to face you back. So when you choose to be kind to someone, when they face you, know how to face back. Talk to them or befriend them, make them feel they aren’t isolated. You can tell an adult that a kid is bullying someone. Or, tell the bully that what he/she is doing isn’t right. Imagine a world where everyone is treated equally no matter what. You can make a big difference with a small act of kindness towards people who are bullied and isolated.

14 The Motivation 11. Considering your message, what action would you like your audience to take? Do you want them to change their attitude about something? Do you want to urge them to take a pledge? Do you want them to behave differently? Think about how you want your audience to change or what you want them to do. Write it below. I want our message to show that being kind to people that are bullied and isolated is better than being disrespectful or be a bystander. I want the audience to carry this message and be kind to people who are in help of comfort. So, they can make the world a better place. I want these to inspire people to stand up for bullies that make fun of them. I want the audience to understand that each one of us should be treated nicely.

15 Never give up and keep on going no matter how you look like
Bye Wonders
