2. Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences
Furthers understanding of weather, climate and the solar-terrestrial system by expanding the fundamental knowledge of the composition and dynamics of the Earth’s atmosphere and geospace environment
Supports large, complex facilities required for research in the atmospheric and solar-terrestrial sciences

3. Division of Polar Programs
manages and initiates National Science Foundation funding for basic research and its operational support in the Arctic and the Antarctic.
has two science sections- one for the Arctic and the Antarctic. A third section manages the logistics and support operations including field stations, camps, laboratories, ships, and airplanes.
