Utopianism and Mormons Utopian communities grew as a result of the economic and social changes that were taking place as a result of the industrial revolution.

intense religious revivals and reforms took place. New religious groups emerged from this area including the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) and the Millerites. that later developed into the 7th Day Adventists Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon Church

Mormons Brigham Young led the Mormon to St. Lake from 1846 to 1869 to escape religious persecution. Beginning in Nauvoo, Illinois, the Mormon Pioneer Trail crossed Iowa, connected with the Great Platte River Road at the Missouri River, and ended near the Great Salt Lake in Utah. This area later became the State of Deseret, then the Utah Territory, and finally the State of Utah.
