Factors that Climate Affects
Soil Adaptations Depending on the climate, the soil can be different. For example, in the tropical rainforest the soil is very poor. This seems strange since there is such lush green forests; however, there is so much rainfall that there are actually very little nutrients in the soil itself. Most of them are washed away and the plants have special adaptations such as growing on other plants or having shallow roots to help them to survive. In the tundra, the soil is permanently frozen. The permafrost makes it impossible for large plants, such as trees, to grow. So most plants in the tundra grow low to the ground because of the climate and soil conditions. Climate also influences the adaptations that have developed in different organisms. For example, the desert has a very harsh climate with hot days and cold nights. Many of the animals that live there are nocturnal, or active at night. The coolness of the night allows for them to conserve water and survive the climate.
