Word Study SuperStar Five Point Options: Ten Point Options:
*Write each word five times. *Divide each word into syllables using a dictionary. *Make a “shape it” for each spelling word. ( EX: curly) *Write each word study word plus a word that rhymes with it. *Write each word and circle the vowels. *Write a word pyramid for each word. *Write your words on graph paper and outline them in three different colors. *Use the numbers on the phone pad to write a phone number for each of your words. (Ex. ABC=1) *Write each word and highlight the consonants. Ten Point Options: *Write words in alphabetical order. *Make and personally solve a word search using *Use a dictionary to classify your words according to their parts of speech. (Ex. Man- noun) Twenty Point Options: *Use your words to create a poem. The poem must make sense and each spelling word should be underlined. *Create a song or rap using your words. The song/rap must make sense. Underline each word. *Write sentences using the letters in each spelling word. (EX. Tree= Tom really enjoys eggs.) *Create a short story using each of your words. Be sure that your story makes sense and that each word study word is underlined. *Create 15 meaningful sentences using your word study words. Fifteen Point Options: *Draw a picture and “hide” all of your spelling words in the picture. *Write an alliteration sentence, or tongue twister, for each word. (Ex. Brenda bought bunches of bananas at Big Lots.) *Cut the your words (or letters to form the word) out of magazines/newspapers and glue on paper to form a collage. *Have a parent administer your word study pretest. Write each misspelled word three times. A parent’s signature is required for credit. Choose your grade: 40 points= A; 30 points= B; 20 points= C; 10 points= D; and less than 10 points= F. The contract and spelling test count as quiz grades. Students may only use options one time per week.
