3 INTRODUCTION GCSE Hitler had strong views about the role of women in Nazi Germany. Their role was to : Stay at home Support their husbands Have as many children as possible!!!

5 How did Nazi ideas affect women?
GCSE WOMEN WERE BARRED FROM SOME JOBS. Many female teachers, doctors, lawyers were fired when Hitler came to power. 2. WOMEN WERE DISCOURAGED FROM UNIVERSITY. Only 10% of students were women. Nazis felt studying would stop them having a family.

6 GCSE 3. WOMEN WERE BARRED FROM JURY SERVICE!
Hitler felt they were ‘too emotional’ to be effective! GCSE 4. CHILDLESS COUPLES WERE ENCOURAGED TO FIND NEW PARTNERS! Contraception was banned. Childless couples were encouraged to DIVORCE or find new partners!

7 GCSE 5. A NAZI WAY OF LIFE WAS ENCOURAGED!
Women were banned from smoking (unladylike) Make up, wearing trousers and dyeing hair and slimming was also discouraged!

6. LEBENSBORN This was called ‘Spring of life’ It was a brothel where unmarried mothers could go to become pregnant by Aryan racially pure SS men! You called Ladies? I LOVE my Aryan men! GCSE We are looking for some real ARYAN men please!

9 Why did Hitler want bigger families? GCSE
Hitler encouraged bigger families to: Make a Greater racially pure Germany Make a larger army GCSE How did he encourage bigger families? A MOTHERHOOD MEDAL was given to women with the most children (Gold medal for 8) Good LOANS (1 years wages) were given to newly married couples. On the birth of 4 children they could keep the money.

The Motherhood medal gave pride to some mothers Families were encouraged and supported. Many in Germany liked this (eg church) Many women liked being supported Men had a more chance of a job Most women were actually against the Nazis to begin with BUT began to support them – showing the popularity of their policies

13 Bad GCSE Many women didn’t like losing their jobs and not being allowed to study They didn’t like having their freedoms stopped. Divorce not liked by the church. Lebensborn children grew up fatherless The German population didn’t increase hugely. (Sterilisation) Women had to be put into jobs due to the war.
