Slimy, Squishy, Snail Observations

Observations come in 2 basic types:
Quantitative Observations Measurements with numbers height mass temperature time to do something volume

Qualitative Observations Detected with the senses odor texture taste color sound

Categorize these observations:
My socks smell horrid. My socks are 45% covered with grass stains. The temperature of the alcohol is 38 degrees. The alcohol is warm when I touch it. The Tree of Utah looks like Picasso created it. The Tree of Utah is 7.9 meters tall. That smoothie is too chunky. I used 500 mL of almond milk to make a smoothie.

Now observe some live snails…
All living things deserve our respect – they are not toys Always treat snails gently Do not throw them Do not shake them Do not stress them out by constantly touching them Do not force snails to touch any surface * If you MUST touch a snail, slide it rather than picking it straight up

(write in the form of a question) Observe the snail without touching it. Record AT LEAST these observations Be as descriptive as possible For each observation, label it as qualitative or quantitative

When you are finished with observations
GENTLY place your snail back into the tank Use a disinfectant wipe to clean your table and your hands Do NOT wipe the snail or each other
