1 The Cell!!!! TB:pgs

2 1- Seven Characteristics of Living Things
Breathing Eating Moving Excreting Reproducing Growing Reacts to the environment

3 2-Examples Whales Ferns Breathing: O2 CO2 Eating: Krill Minerals
Moving: Swimming Cellular Excreting: Urine, CO2 O2 Reproducing: Live Young Pollination Growing: From 1m+ Seed-plant Reacts to the environment: Fear Wilt In conclusion they both meet the criteria and are therefore living

4 2-Examples Car Breathing: O2 Eating: Gas Moving: Rolls Excreting: CO2
Reproducing: No Growing: No Reacts to the environment: Rusts In conclusion, a car does not meet all the criteria, and therefore, is not living.

5 Cell 3-All living organisms are composed of cells.
4-The cell is the smallest living unit that exist. Smallest Unit

6 Cell 5-Cells do not have all the same size, shape, or function.

7 6-There are Two Different Cell Types:
Animal Cells & Plant Cells

8 Animal cell 7- Animal cells include: Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, vacuoles, endoplasmic reticulum, & mitochondrion.

9 8 –Draw the Animal Cell

10 9-Plant cell 5- Plant cells include: Cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, vacuole, endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondrion, cell wall, chloroplast.

11 10- Draw the Plant Cell

12 How do cells work? 11- Inputs: are substances that enter the cell and are indispensable to its activities. 12-Outputs: Substances that must leave the cell=Waste.

13 Cells Class 2

14 1- Exchanges Between the Cell and Its Environment
Diffusion Osmosis Photosynthesis Cellular Respiration

15 Diffusion 2 – Diffusion is the process by which molecules spread from areas of high concentration, to areas of low concentration. 3- When the molecules are even throughout a space - it is called EQUILIBRIUM

16 Osmosis 4- Osmosis is the passage of water across a membrane that only allows certain substances to pass

17 Osmosis cont. 5-The solute is more concentrated on the right side to start with. This causes molecules to move across the membrane toward the left until equilibrium is reached. 6-Selectively Permeable Membranes allow some things across the membrane. For example water and oxygen move freely across the cell's membrane, by diffusion

18 Photosynthesis 7-Solar energy + water + carbon dioxide  Oxygen + glucose Draw

19 Cellular Respiration 8- Oxygen+ glucose  Carbon dioxide+ water + energy. Draw
