Agenda: Survivor Challenge: Crossword! Discuss How Piggy Dies Ch 12 Vocabulary Read Chapter 12 – the last chapter! Answer Reading Comprehension Questions and “Think Sheet” H/W: Finish reading chapter 12 and answering reading comprehension questions 4, 6,7,8 and 9 if you did not have time to finish in class today. All Yellow Reading Comp Questions and Pink “Think Sheet” Due at the start of class on Monday, 12/16. Chapters 9-12 Vocab Test Monday, 12/16.

2 Ch 12 Vocab Ululation: a loud emotional outcry or howl POS: noun Sample Sentence: His ululation was heard across the land.

3 Ch 12 Vocab Yearn: to have an intense desire or longing for POS: verb Sample Sentence: Ralph yearned for the comforts of home.

4 Ch 12 Vocab Decipher: to read or to interpret POS: verb Sample Sentence: I can’t decipher her handwriting.

5 Ch 12 Vocab Obscurity: the quality of being unclear and hard to understand POS: verb Sample Sentence: Writing should be clear and without obscurity so that it can be understood by all.

6 Learning Targets: I can select one quote that proves an object symbolizes something greater than itself. I can explain how the author proves the object symbolizes something greater within my quote. I can identify one quote of figurative language. I can analyze why the two things are compared, and why that comparison is important or significant.
