5. I. Autonomic Nervous System
The involuntary branch of the nervous system
Consists of only motor nerves
Divided into 2 divisions
Sympathetic division
Parasympathetic division

Originates from spinal nerves
Ganglia (neurons outside the brain) are near the spinal cord
Short neuron and long neuron transmit impulse from CNS to the effector (muscle)
Norepinephrine and epinephrine are neurotransmitters

Terminal ganglia are at the effector organs
Always uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter
