Both, few, many, and several are plural
Subjects joined by and are usually plural
Subjects joined by or or nor go by the subject closer to the verb
Titles are singular

Collective nouns such as class or group are singular when treated as a unit, plural when referring to the parts or members
Units of measure, fractions etc. are singular when the amount is thought of as a unit, plural when thought of as parts
