1 Data catalog: metadata visualization
Jari Korpi Dept. of Real Estate, Planning and Geoinformatics

2 Goals Study the visualization possibilities of the metadata
Which kind of views on metadata are needed? Which kind of visual solutions are possible for the selected elements? Which are the roles of the metadata elements? Which are the most essential metadata elements? Give a suggestion for the visualization of datacatalog Department of Real Estate, Planning and Geoinformatics

3 Materials The metadata elements that have been defined earlier Existing catalog services Geoportals and geographic metadata services Open data catalogs Earlier catalog plan Literature Comparison applications Information design and visualization Department of Real Estate, Planning and Geoinformatics

4 Laitoksen nimi 18.11.2018 Resource Explanation JHS 158 INSPIRE
Requirement Value domain Notes Search field Title Characteristic name by which the resource is known 360 1.1 mandatory free text no Abstract Brief narrative summary of the content of the resource 25 1.2 Topic category High-level classification scheme to assist in the grouping and topic-based search of available spatial data resources 41 2.1 predefined list (ISO 19115), see Table 2 The ISO categorization (also used in Inspire) may be too generic for MMEA that is targeted to environmental data only. One alternative is to use General Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus (GEMET). yes Keywords Commonly used word(s), formalized word(s) or phrase(s) used to describe the subject 53 3.1 from GEMET The purpose of this element is to narrow down the topic. Could be also freely given (i.e. not limited to any ontology or thesaurus) but then a metadata element telling the origin of the keywords must be added. Language The language used within the resource 39 1.7 from predefined list In case of the data being purely numeric, the option "not defined" can be used Format Name of the data transfer format(s). 271 There can be more than one possible formats for the data. The list of formats may be a long one. Spatial representation type Method used to spatially represent geographic information 37 vector or raster Spatial resolution Size of the pixel 38 The field activates in case of raster data. Scale denominator The denominator of the usable scale for the data. Gives information on the generalization level. integer The field activates in case of vector data. Geographic extent The extent of the resource in the geographic space. There is option to choose "whole Finland", otherwise given as a bounding box expressed with westbound and eastbound longitudes, and southbound and northbound latitudes in decimal degrees, with a precision of at least two decimals. 343 4.1 either "whole Finland", or 4 coordinate values Is it possible to offer datasets outside Finland? Should textual representation be allowed? What is the coordinate system that is used in describing the coordinate values? Reference system Name of reference system 187 All possible referent systems (or a subset of preselected ones) could be given in a drop down list. This would make the referent system information more precise. Vertical reference system Provides information about the vertical coordinate reference system to which the maximum and minimum elevation values are measured. 358 optional Temporal extent type Information on the temporal extent of the dataset. time series or individual time stamp Not presented in either in JHs158 nor in INSPIRE Laitoksen nimi

Datastream Catalog Data News Contact About Log in The national water forecasts - WSFS No graphic preview available The national hydrological forecasting and real time monitoring system in Finland, called the watershed simulation and forecasting system (WSFS), has been developed in the SYKE. The WSFS is described in detail in The WSFS is used in Finland for simulation of hydrological cycle and for making real-time forecasts. The system simulates the hydrological cycle using standard meteorological data. The system is originally based on the HBV watershed model. The hydrological model simulates the whole land area of Finland, including cross-boundary watersheds, total of km2. The area is divided into about sub-basins, each of which is about km2.
