2 Unit Questions What is imperialism? Why did the USA turn to imperialism after 1900? How did the USA project its power abroad? What areas of the world came under the USA’s influence? What were the effects of U.S. imperialism?

3 Quick Fire Do you believe the USA should use it’s power to influence other countries? If yes, how so? (Give an example) If not, why not? (Give an example)

4 Daily Goals Content: We will understand the concept of imperialism and be able to apply it to specific action the USA took abroad between Literacy: We will read and analyze the poem “The White Man’s Burden.” Social: We will raise our hands and wait to be called on. We will focus our conversation into group, partner, and class discussion.

5 What is Imperialism? A policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy (statemenship) or military force. In this unit we will learn how after the year 1900 the Unite States became world power and increased its influence through imperialism.

6 The White Man’s Burden A famous poem about U.S. imperialism toward other countries By Englishmen Rudyard Kipling The White Man’s Burden is to bring western civilization, and industrialization to a poor, backward world of dark-skinned people

We will learn why the USA went down the path of imperialism after 1900. We will also learn how the USA became a world power. Literacy: We will watch a documentary clip. We will read a section from our textbook We will take class notes Social: We will raise our hands and wait to be called on. We will focus our conversation into group, partner, and class discussion.
