1 Welcome to the New Mexico State Personnel Office (SPO) Day 3
Your first week: Days 1-5

2 Day 3 Welcome to SPO! There are a number of things that will happen this week as you become a part of our team. Everyone at SPO wants to help make sure that your first days are smooth and seamless as possible as you begin your new job at SPO.

3 What you have already accomplished
You had your orientation, you signed your forms, walked around and were introduced to everyone at SPO, you learned how to work your phone, our policies and procedures, how to write a req. and leave slip and how lunch and breaks work. You are doing great! Let’s start with some of the things you should do today (don’t forget you can pause this presentation at any time while viewing):

4 Day 3 Overview Today we will look at and focus on the following:
The SPO Employee Connection website: Understanding/Navigating the SPO website Active Shooter/Work Safety Defensive Driving

5 Purpose The purpose of this introductory training is to help you become a valuable member of the SPO team. So let’s get started…

6 Don’t Forget! Take a moment to look at the “Message” button on your phone. If it is red, that means you have a message. Push the “Message” button and when prompted enter your security code (the one you set up) and you will be prompted on how to access the message. Do your best to respond to all messages within one business day of receiving them.

7 Our Connection to You The State Personnel Office Employee Connection website is used to find information, answer questions and initiate trainings for SPO employees. All of us in the office use this site in multiple ways, but specifically as a resource to help us to better do our jobs.

8 The SPO Employee Connections Website
This site is literally “one-stop-shopping”. Go to: There are five sections: State of New Mexico Benefits and Services Engagement Training and Resources Managers and Supervisors Take some time to check out each section of the site (if you are not a Manager/Supervisor you do not have to look through that information).

9 FEMA Active Shooter Training
This training takes about an hour; make some time today so you can complete the online course. Go to our State Personnel Employee Connection website: Look at the “Training and Resources” section Click on “Active Shooter Training- What can you do?”

10 To The FEMA Website The page you are now on is the “quick start guide” and has four sections. Read each of these sections and look at the graphic before clicking on the “link” in section 1 “Access the course”. When you have read the guide, click on the “link” (it is in blue).

11 The FEMA Course You are now at the FEMA website. Just like on the “quick start guide” you will see the link to “Take This Course”. Click on “Interactive Web Based Course”. It looks like this: When you finish you will take the final exam. Register for the test using the website.

12 Defensive Driving Be sure to ask your manager or supervisor to determine if you need to take defensive driving. If you do not have to, you can skip right to the “Recap”. If you need to take defensive driving: Go to our State Personnel Employee Connection website: Look at the “Training and Resources” section Click on “Statutory Training”

13 General Services Department
You will see two classes. Click once on the “General Services Department-Defensive Driving Course”. It looks like this: This will take you to the GSD website. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the calendar. You will need to sign up for a 6 HR (this means 6 hour) class. The next slide will walk you through those steps.

14 Requisition Form for Defensive Driving
Remember the requisition form you learned about yesterday, well now you get to write your first one. So go to your requisition form and fill in the information about the defensive driving class and print the form. Take it to either your manager/supervisor or to Stuart Hamilton, our CFO, to start the approval process. When it gets approved, go back to the GSD website and register by clicking on the class you want to take (it will be green on the calendar).

15 A Recap Learning to navigate multiple state agency websites is crucial. Hopefully your access to them went smoothly. You have completed and are familiar with: The SPO website The FEMA Active Shooter training Registered for Defensive Driving

16 There is so much more… …but it is your third day and getting your feet on solid ground will be the best thing you can do today. Just remember that everyone on the SPO team is dedicated to helping you become an invaluable part of our agency. So ask questions if you have any. Welcome to the team!
