4 About….. ScanBalt BioRegion is the brand name of the meta-region
ScanBalt focus on Life Sciences and biotech as a heaver to achieve its goals. ScanBalt is a not for profit association with a vision to shape a globally competetive, sustainable meta-region in a triple helix format [academia (incl. hospitals), public authorities and private companies] ScanBalt is based on a ”bottom up” approach

5 The purpose ScanBalt will promote knowledge formation, education and research, within biotech and life sciences, to shape a world class, competitive life sciences/biotech-industrial meta-bioregion for the benefit of all ScanBalt inhabitants. ScanBalt will reinforce both goals related to economical development and goals related to human resources and environment. ScanBalt will also be a forum for discussion on biotech-society impact.

6 Network of networks The metafor network of networks entails the task of coordination of existing networks and organisations as well as stimulating the founding of new ones. It does not exclude membership by single universities, hospitals, companies or persons.

17 ScanBalt CompetenceRegion
„ScanBalt CompetenceRegion“ 11 partners, duration 07/2004 – 12/2006 Objectives Comprehensive and structured profile („yellow pages, what, who, how, where, …) with add-on knowledge about value chain to spot globally competitive core competencies and capabilities as well as key challenges, to develop in a model case joint regional strategies and recommendations how to strengthen the competitiveness of ScanBalt bioregion

18 Why ScanBalt – in Short Create visibility for the ScanBalt BioRegion and members of ScanBalt Attract human resources and capital Initiate and facilitate the creation of critical mass Coordinate joint efforts in research, education and technology transfer Create a triple helix platform for collaboration between academia (incl. hospitals), public authorities and private companies Create a platform for dialog and collaboration between networks, internally, and meta networks, externally Create a platform for dialog with supra-national institutions
