Study of Hydrogen/Syngas Combustion and NO Emissions at High Pressures and Temperatures udy of Hydrogen/Syngas Combustion and NO Emissions Yiguang Ju, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ 08544 Q Ub High hydrogen syngas production from coal and biomass with carbon capture is an economical way to provide alternative fuels with reduced carbon and NOx emissions. However, the development of premixed, lean burning gas turbines using high hydrogen syngas is complicated by the control of temperature and pressure sensitive ignition delay time and burning rates at high pressures. With this ACS funding, we have achieved the following notable results: Fig.1 A spherical propagating flame Developed a new method to accurately extract burning velocities at high pressures using spherical flames. Measured burning velocities of hydrogen syngas mixture up to 20 atm. A negative pressure dependence of burning velocity was found at gas turbine conditions. Validated the kinetic mechanisms and proposed a new reaction path. Investigated the effects of CO and CO2 dilution on burning speeds.
