What is the MGC conferencing bridge? The MGC is a multipoint, unified conferencing bridge which delivers voice, video, data and/or Web conferencing applications over any network, from a single platform The MGC enables the seamless transition from point-to-point to multipoint conferencing, with added value features such as advanced conference management The Polycom MGC (25, 50 and 100) supports all networks – IP (H.323 and SIP), ISDN, PSTN, T1, T1CAS, V.35, RS449, RS530, ATM – for video, audio and Unified conferencing.

Video and audio conferences share a common feature set that makes conference management flexible and easy to use. The MGC supports a single number per conference and entry queue access – this enables all participants (audio or video) to connect to their conference using the same number. Conferences can also be launched from a buddy list in Windows Messenger or WebOffice, by selecting the participants needed to be in a conference. Several implementations of On Demand conferencing with entry queue are also available. The MGC version 7.0 supports SIP. This makes the MGC the market leader in IP with the largest IP deployments in the world.

Also, resources are never utilized on the MGC unless a user initiates a conference. On Demand conferencing increases the adoption rate and makes conferencing more productive.

8 On-Demand Conferencing with “Meeting Rooms”
Only Polycom offers flexible On-Demand conferencing… Includes “Meeting Rooms” with entry queue service for complete conference control and security Meeting rooms can be assigned to individuals, work groups or departments…each with a unique conference ID and password (conference and chairperson) End users can launch an On-Demand conference from any endpoint (audio or video) with the same dial-in number (e.g …) An Entry Queue (EQ) is a special routing lobby to which one or several dial in numbers are assigned for both video and audio endpoints (ALL-in-ONE), including PSTN, VoIP, H.320, H.323, and T1-CAS endpoints. Participants with the same capabilities (audio only or video line rate, video protocol, video format, etc.) dial the same dial-in number and they are routed to the appropriate conference according to the conference numeric ID they enter using IVR/DTMF. A Meeting Room is a reservation on the MGC, without resource allocation. The reservation is saved in the MGC memory and is inactive and remains inactive for an unlimited time, until the first participant connects to it. The Meeting Room remains in sleep mode (passive) in between activations. Meeting Rooms make conferencing simple, secured, and transparent to the user, as all participants dial the same number, and the chairperson has full control over the meeting.

What is an entry queue? EQ is a special “routing lobby” to which one or several dial-in numbers are assigned Participants with different capabilities may all dial the same dial-in number (from either video or audio endpoint) and will be routed to the appropriate conference Participants are prompted for the conference numeric ID (password) by the IVR service, and enter DTMF codes from their keypad Entry queue can be linked to an external database for further authentication services An Entry Queue (EQ) is a special routing lobby to which one or several dial in numbers are assigned for both video and audio endpoints (ALL-in-ONE), including PSTN, VoIP, H.320, H.323, and T1-CAS endpoints. Polycom’s Click&View is a revolutionary feature that enables each site participating in an Advanced CP conference to change the CP layout that they view at their site, while other sites continue to view the CP layout selected for the conference, or their own personal view of the conference The conference experience is more productive for all conference participants when they can select the CP view that best meets their interest and objectives for the conference Each sites uses their video end point controller or keypad and touch tone or IVR/DTMF to initiate the Click&View feature and to select their own CP layout, or even to request operator assistance The conference chairperson can also use Click&View to change the conference layout in Basic CP.

31 Conference Level Security - External Database Access Authentication
Participant profiles are created and maintained on external enterprise database, including access and conferencing privileges This allows centralized management and maintenance of employee profiles in one location (as opposed to saving on MGC) Conference initiation and access for each participant is validated against the database Profiles of participants are stored in an external database. This database application is used for authentication. In this implementation, security is of very high priority. The authentication can be done at the Entry Queue level and at the conference level. At the entry queue level, the MGC queries the external database server whether the participant has the right to create a new conference. At the conference level the MGC verifies whether the participant can access the conference and if the participant is the conference chairperson. This implementation allows centralized management and maintenance of employee profiles.
