Discuss the difference in checkered and striped genes. Review the term allele.
Let them know that an uppercase R will represent the allele for red flower color and a lowercase r for white flower color.

3. Use this diagram to help students understand the concept of independent assortment.

4. Explain that we will now learn how to determine possible offspring of a dihybrid cross. So, instead of looking at one trait on one pair of chromosomes, we will now look at two traits that are independent of each other. This means the genes for the two different traits are on two separate chromosome pairs.
