Substance (Stoff) is the term used to identify all materials that make up our world We can compare properties of the samples with substances we know Examples for substance properties:

Planning the experiment
Pick one group card and form a group with everyone else who picked the same number Pick up your group’s sample box Figure out ways to test your samples for the properties listed on your group card. Don’t experiment yet! Use the reverse of your worksheet to write them down You may include any equipment that is on the desk in your planning If you need hints, there are hint cards with the teacher Once you are done, please check your plan with a teacher Once the teacher has approved your plan you may pick up the next worksheet, safety glasses and your equipment and start

Collect your results on worksheet 3 Clean up your workspace once you’re done Match your samples to the substance profiles on the teacher’s desk Prepare a presentation of your results If your are done with everything, let us know!

Presenting your results
Form new groups that contain at least one of each glassware item Explain how you examined your substance properties and present your results
