A carbon footprint reflects the amount of carbon dioxide that an individual produce in his daily activities by burning fossil fuels for transportation, electricity and more. A carbon footprint calculator is commonly used to measure the carbon footprint of an individual. Whenever we burn fossil fuels such as petrol, gas, and coal, to support our lifestyle, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. What is my carbon Footprint?
Many people don’t make the connection between their everyday activities and amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The amount of CO2 that is put into the atmosphere due to your personal activities is called your “CARBON FOOTPRINT”. Before we calculate our carbon footprints, do you think your carbon footprint is above or below the world average? Write that on top of your “My Carbon Footprint” worksheet.

Ecological Footprint The impact of human activities measured in terms of the area of biologically productive land and water required to produce the goods consumed and to assimilate the wastes generated. More simply, it is the amount of the environment necessary to produce the goods and services necessary to support a particular lifestyle.

The world average is also shown (brown) Why is the average footprint of someone in China is smaller than the average footprint of an American, even though China’s population is much larger?

Answer: Because there are many millions of people living in China are not affluent, and who do not have a large effect on the environment, the average footprint is smaller overall.
