Principles of Self-Assessment
Improvement- SA is a process not to prove but to improve Participation- It is a collaborative effort and needs to have participation of all stakeholders Reflection- need to consider concerns and opinion of all the major stakeholders of the programs Coverage- need to cover multidimensional aspects of the program and QA areas Facts driven- all the findings should be based on facts and information Sensitization- need to share findings with stakeholders. Acceptance- need to be accepted by all stakeholders Endorsement- need to be endorsed by the head of the entity Continuity- permanent and cyclical process
4
Objectives of Program level SA
To review the existing capacity prevailed and procedures and practices exercised by the entity for their improvement To create a basis for external assessment and validation To provide guidelines or direction for strategic planning To maintain and continuously enhance academic standards
5
Outcomes of Program SA Shifting of attitudes from reactive to proactive Status of the programs standards could be understood Create opportunity to revisit the program objectives and learning outcomes; Create scope for rectification of deficiencies
6
Steps in Self-Assessment (SA) Process
Customization of standards according to context & reality of the entity Scheduling of Program offering entities(PoE) for SA by IQAC Formation of SAC in the entity. Approval of SAC by the VC Preparation of the activity schedule with time line Team Building workshop (1st workshop) Customization of survey tools following set criteria and standards
7
Steps in Self-Assessment (SA) Process
Conducting survey for collection of data, Data processing, analysis and data presentation Preparation draft Self-Assessment Report (SAR) following SA report writing format. Workshop on draft SA report (2nd workshop) Preparing the final SAR Submission of SAR for endorsement by the head of the entity
8
Steps in Self-Assessment (SA) Process
Selection of external peer review panel by IQAC Planning of external peer review visit Invitation of external peer reviewers Implementation external peer review process Submission of External Peer Review Report (EPRR)
9
Steps in Self-Assessment (SA) Process
Preparation of the draft improvement plan by SAC based on SAR and EPRR according to format Workshop to finalize improvement plan (3rd workshop) Submission of improvement plan to the authority for approval Execution of improvement plan

How to improve the QUALITY?
Summary of Self-Assessment Process Improvement Plan Self- Assessment QUALITY is improved How to improve the QUALITY? Implementation Data Processing Data Collection Data Analysis Writing the SAR Training Workshop for Self Assessment - Prof. Colin N. Peiris
11
Measurement of Quality
Quality can be measured as the ratio of performance and expectation, that is Q=P/E Where, Q is for Quality P is for Performance E is for Expectation -indicates achievement of quality is a never ending process
12
Impact of Self Assessment on Quality
SA + External Review + Teamwork Expected Condition SA + Teamwork + No External Review SA+ No Teamwork + No External Review Present condition Without SA Time Training Workshop for Self Assessment - Prof. Colin N. Peiris
13
Salient Features of SAR
The SAR should consists of clearly described purposes and scope of Self-Assessment. consists of an overview of the university consists of an overview of the entity, programs provide information focusing on the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities of the entity
14
Salient Features of SAR
be factually accurate, clear and persuasive provides information needful for strategic planning. be as such so that a reader can easily grasp the content. contain practical recommendations with priority for improvement.
