Ancient Mariner Educational and Entertainment Molly McDonough Daniel Mitchell Illustration,

2 Reasoning Dover This game is for adolescents or young adults that are interested in supernatural or a long journey. Goal: To avoid or fight off the curse and to get rid of it before it leads to the death of your crew. Each level (5) will be worth 20 points and if you pass all the levels you get a perfect score and put on the top of the leaderboard. Anything lower than that will be ranked by points.

3 Reasoning (cont.) In this game you will get to go through all of the levels, but your success depends on the amount of points that add up. This game follows the story line of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, so the story must go on! The table of contents in the main menu will help guide you through the levels. Once you start the game you cannot go onto the next level until you’ve completed the one before.

4 “There was a ship,” (Norton.10.444)
“The ship was cheered” (Norton ) “the harbor cleared” (Norton ) “Merrily did we drop” (Norton ) “Below the kirk” (Norton ) Level 1 The Wedding Guest is being approached by the Mariner. The player will try to avoid him so that he does not get caught up in the story- telling. If he is successful in avoiding him, the player will get 20 points and 0 if they get caught up in it. To avoid the Mariner the player will be trying to dodge his speech bubbles. He will start with 5 lives, and every time a speech bubble hits you, a life is lost. If you can keep your lives within 45 seconds, you win. Some of the speech bubbles that are sent out are represented on this page. If you can dodge the beginning of the story you are successful.

5 Level 2 After completing level 1, win or lose, Level 2 you will play as the Albatross trying to avoid the shot of the Mariner, while guiding the ship through the ice. Not only are you trying to dodge the shots, you will avoid the snow-fog, that will slow you down. If you fly through the snow-fog, the Albatross will briefly be slowed down and it will be harder to dodge the shots. If you are shot down then you lose and get 0 points and if you successfully avoid them then you get the 20 points. The Mariner wants to kill the Albatross because it will help feed his pride. At 1:31 is an idea of what this level would look like.

6 Level 3 In the poem the Mariner plays dice with Life-death. In this level you will be playing as the Mariner and will the game (War) with her. You will “roll the dice” , and whoever has the higher number will win. There will be 3 rounds, best 2 out of 3 will win. If you win then you get the 20 points and your crew survived, but if you don’t win you get 0 points and your crew will die. Also if you lose, then you will see your dying crew members set a curse on you with their eyes. Which leads you onto the next level. 888casino

7 Level 4 This level gets a little harder, this level is when the education aspect comes in. Word bubbles come up above a snake, and the player has to give a translation of the line from the poem. If they get it correct the Mariner “blesses it”, you have 30 seconds to complete 5 bubbles. With this level you cannot move on until 5 is completed. If you do it in the first try you get the full 20 points, but every other try takes 2 points off. For example: “The selfsame moment I could pray;/ And from my neck so free/The Albatross fell off, and sank/ Like lead into the sea.”(Norton ) The curse is lifted by praying. He has been wearing the Albatross on his neck, but it fell off into the water CORRECT!!! IStock

8 Level 5 In this level you are guiding the ship while it is accelerating through the sea. Although there is no wind, it is believed that it is being guided from something underneath or by spirits. You will be steering as it is moving at a fast speed. You will be trying to dodge anything that is floating, but you have to try to listen to the voices the Mariner is steering. One of the voices is judging and trying to make you make a mistake, while the other is giving directions. “The Spirit who bideth by himself/ in the land of mist and snow./ He loved the bird that loved the man/ Who shot him with his bow.” (Norton ) “The other was a softer voice,/ As soft as honey-dew: / Quoth he, ‘The man hath penance done, / And penance more will do’” (Norton ) These are lines you will hear when the level begins.
