A Girl with Seven Names The “girl” leaves North Korea and goes into China as a prank before her 18th birthday. Due to a censes by the government, she is unable to return. After years of adventures in China, her main objective is to get to South Korea. South Korea is much different and the people of that country have Free Will. This is something that North Koreans do not have. The people of North Korea do not have a religion since they are to worship the Kim family. The government runs the economy and there is no free market. North Korea has one of the biggest militaries in the world and spends about 30% of its budget on it. It is a law that all households must have pictures of the Great Leaders. They worship these pictures and have inspections to make sure that they are well maintained.

Mariam - Born out of wedlock - Marries Rasheed in a forced marriage - Kills Rasheed and is executed by the Taliban Nana - Tells Mariam that their job is to endure -Commits suicide when Mariam goes to Jalil’s Jalil Calls Mariam a flower and seems to be a fabulous father until he refuses to take Mariam to his movie theater for her birthday. Leaves Mariam money, a letter, and a video (Laila gets it in the end) Forces Mariam to marry the shoe maker – Rasheed Rahseed - abusive husband that -Hires someone to tell Laila that Tariq is dead so she will marry him Laila - forced to marry Rasheed because she is pregnant

Honor Diaries The women of the film are all advocates to educate the world about abuse/hardships of the women of the Muslim culture One of the topics they discuss is the difference between forced marriages where women do not want to marry the men that they are supposed to marry. They also discuss FGM and how that this practice is not in Quran, but some Muslim cultures have adopted the practice because they believe it keeps the women pure.
