What is Excel used for? What careers use Excel? What are some things you can create with Excel?

5 Excel is a… AutoSum is one way you can solve calculations.
Ask yourself: What is AutoSum? How do you use AutoSum?

It’s important you know the AutoSum Symbol comes from Greece and why the Greeks play an important role in what we learn in class.

9 AutoSum The ∑ symbol means sum. ∑ is the Greek capital sigma symbol.
Used commonly in algebraic functions

10 Vocabulary terms: Row- Rows run horizontally in an Excel worksheet and are identified by a number in the row header Column-A column is vertical in a chart, table, or spreadsheet identified by the letters in the header AutoSum- Found under the Formula tab, function automatically Sums numbers selected Merge and Center- Brings cells that are near each other to create on big cell Ribbon- the strip of buttons and icons located above the work area Insert- A tab on the Ribbon that allows to add tables, pictures, and shapes Cell- One unit or square that stores information or data Sheet- One sheet in the entire document, the title may be found at the bottom Workbook- The entire document and any sheets found within, title may be found at the top after saving it Format- To change the appearance, change the value, or arrange in a different way

Click to add picture or shape This entire tool bar is also known as The Ribbon AutoSum is found under the Formulas Tab as well Columns run vertically Click Merge and Center to turn more than one cell into one big one Row runs horizontals Click Paint Bucket to add color or fill A cell is one box Click to add a new Sheet

13 To select an entire column just select the columns letter
To select an entire row just click the rows number

14 Notice when you type a negative sign in front of a dollar sign, the negative price turns red.

Click between any columns or rows to drag and fix width

16 Want to practice? Open a blank workbook through Excel
In a new sheet, place the following prices: $1.00 in A1, -$1.00 in A2 Click A3 and go to Formulas on the ribbon Click AutoSum And your answer should pop up: $0.00 Then select from A1 TO A3, go to the ribbon, click home, pick the all borders option
