What is a Theme in Literature?

Theme Definition Theme: an opinion about life or human nature or society that the writer shares with the reader. It is usually not stated directly, but must be inferred

SO…. Since the theme is not stated directly in any piece of writing, there can absolutely be more than one theme. What’s important is that you be able to back up the theme you choose with quotes and specific events in the book. Be sure that you choose a theme that is broad enough to allow you to support it with 3 quotes!

Let’s Practice… Children’s movies/books often have very obvious themes since they need to be obvious to young kids. Raise your hand if you can think of a theme that fits the following movies.
