Do Now: - Using your ESRT list the time periods of the 4 rock layers below from oldest to youngest. Devonian Silurian Ordovician Cambrian

2 Which two layers will correlate together? How do you know?
I. Correlation matching rock layers from different outcrops based on rock; - composition - fossils - distinguishing traits. - sequence of layers Which two layers will correlate together? How do you know? B/D and C/F

3 II. Correlating outcrops
Choose one outcrop to start with (one with a lot of layers) USING PENCIL, you should redraw the layers and place them next to one another by matching key features

4 III. Practice Correlating
Using the diagram to the right, correlate the rock outcrops and then answer the questions. Which rock type is the oldest? Which rock type is the youngest? Marble Siltstone

5 Closure: From the back top bin, take “Outcrops A” worksheet.
