Theme The main theme of the short story “The Doll’s House” by Katherine Mansfield is class division and social injustice The interesting thing is that this theme is illustrated by both adults and children

Summary In "The Doll's House," the three Burnell sisters receive a beautiful dollhouse. Their parents forbid them to show the dollhouse to the Kelvey sisters, because the Kelveys are poor. One day, however, Kezia Burnell grows bored at a party and decides to invite the Kelveys inside anyway.

conflict The conflict is the social struggle between the Kelveys and the society , which is highlighted by the doll’s house owned by the opulent Burnell sisters

Point of view The short story “The Doll’s House” by Katherine Mansfield is rendered by a third-person narrator who seems to be omniscient regarding the characters. The narrator’s knowledge is revealed in many cases. For instance, the narrator knows that the Burnells dread sending their daughters to the same school as those from the middle or the lower classes

Their popularity increases when Isabel Burnell, the eldest sister, decides that she should choose which two girls she is to invite in their courtyard to see the doll’s house

Plot [falling action] The falling action of the short story is very brief: the Kelvey sisters are ashamed and run away, while Kezia is scolded by her proud aunt
14
Plot [conclusion] There is not much that needs to be clarified anymore , the other girls are not allowed to talk to Lil and Else and they have seen the house. .
