Welcome to Room 23! October 14, 2016 Important Dates Reminders
Language Arts This week we continued practicing the comprehension strategy, creating images. The students listened to a poem about a man with red hair, a blue nose, and green toes and had to draw the images that came to their mind as the poem was being red. We also read a story, The Runaway Pumpkin, and the students had to draw images that came to their minds and write about what in the story created those images. We learned three new vocabulary words, blowing, strength, and investigate. We also started doing a lot of practice with high frequency words (HFW). The words for these week are: little, land, day, park, did, very. Please review these with your child at home. Word Study We continued practicing the short /o/ vowel this week. Weekly Reports/Optional Homework Alternates for the week:
If you would like your child to do the homework, it does not need to be brought back to school until Oct. 31 and it is optional if your child would like to bring it back to school. Most importantly, please make sure your child is reading at least minutes every night, either independently or with an adult! Don’t forget to ask your child about his/her weekly report. We went over these together today. Please sign and return this to school on Monday!! Science This week we started weather! We learned about why the temperature changes, why it’s different temperatures in different places, why we have seasons, and why leaves change color! We made our own seasons book, too! Math This week we continued Chapter 2: Making Number Bonds. In this chapter, students are learning how to use number bonds to show the parts and whole for a given number. We started practicing addition facts using 3 numbers and putting them into number bonds! For example, 5+6+4=15. Please practice this skill with your child at home.
