The actual amount of food wasted is small but the percentage is high as they produce so little waste in total

3. Why is much less waste produced in LICs?
Packaging
Little packaging is used on products, so there is limited plastic waste.
Low income
Consumer purchases are very limited because of low incomes
Cloth nappies
Illiteracy
Disposable nappies and single use drinks containers are rarely sold.
Many people cannot read, so fewer newspapers are sold.
