Activity Plan (1) Arrange a WCI event at IEEE SSCI, IEEE FUZZ and IEEE CEC IEEE SSCI April 2013 – organised by Dipti Organised a panel and lunch reception at IEEE SSCI in Singapore on Wednesday 17th April Provided an excellent opportunity for conference attendees to address and discuss issues, concerns and professional topics that were not of a distinctly technical nature. A panel comprising three leading researchers, Prof Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay from India, Prof Ana Bazzan from Brazil, and Dr Katie Bentley from USA shared their success stories, and discussed the challenges they faced in their careers, along with achievements in their respective fields. IEEE CEC June 2013 Joint WCI-GOLD-Student Activities reception on 20th June at IEEE CEC Organised joint social event with Sub-committee chairs Demetris Eliades, Albert Lam, Stephen Mathews Featuring speed networking, CIS Quiz and Networking.

Activity Plan (2) IEEE FUZZ India July 2013
Bernadette / Keeley placed joint funding request to WIE for IEEE Fuzz joint WIC/WIE event - $300 approved from WIE Proposed Agenda Welcome by WCI - brief introduction to WCI sub-committee IEEE Hyderabad section CIS chapter presentation. Leader Ship and Innovation Talk Trends in Fuzzy Systems Benefiting Society presentation WIE - Hyderabad section talk Dinner or small reception with networking opportunities 2. Produce a survey of all those currently receiving the WCI electronic newsletter. Draft questionnaire completed and feedback received from some members of WCI subcommittee Plan to use Google forms (recommended by Heike). Aim to complete questionnaire and gain approval by end of July 2013 Send out Questionnaires to 400+ names on WCI electronic mailing list and analyse results – to be completed by end October 2013

Activity Plan (3) Promote and publicise WCI activities through Face Book and Linked in (Annabel ) – Arranged for the Facebook and LinkedIn shortcuts to be added to the IEEE WCI webpage ( Linked with the chair of the IEEE CIS social media committee and Annabel been asked to join the social media committee which should streamline social media communications. Develop new WCI website (Keeley (with Collette Curry PhD student), Annabel, Bernadette) Presence established at Currently the website has not been promoted as live as more content of past events is required. Aim to promote by end July 2013 Promote Senior IEEE Membership to women at major conferences and events (Dipti). Dipti organised booths at SSCI, CEC and FUZZ 2013, + more Facilitate Industrial Liaison activities by working with the industrial Liaison Sub-committee to develop tutorials (G A Vijayalakshmi Pai ) Semesters 1 and 2 G Work with Industry liaison sub-committee to develop tutorials.

Activity Plan (4) Facilitate senior women researchers being dominated for the distinguished lecturers programme (Julia Pau-Choo Chung) Julia Pau-Choo Chung current Chair of DLP. Dipti is also a DLP committee member. On-going promotion of distinguished lecturers programme to women in the Society Encourage women researchers to propose and give webinars in order to disseminate knowledge on current topics in computational intelligence. (Keeley) Aim is to propose, plan and organise one webinar to take place in 2013. Liaise with IEEE CIS GOLD sub-committee to look at establishing joint events (GOLD/WCI) for younger members (Woei Wan Tan). Semester 1: Participate in GOLD sub-committee phone conference(s) and help Gold sub-committee set up Google+ group and community page. - Completed

Activity Plan (5) Encourage and promote women to contribute towards the societies Education activities by developing material for the Educational repository (Jenni) - On-going Liaise with the Student Liaison sub-committee to host joint events for WCI and to encourage and support student female members (Valerie). Semesters 1 and 2 : Report on joint events hosted by the Student Liaison Committee. Organise joint events To support the work of the Chapters sub-committee (Heike) To maintain and update the WCI Operations Manual Current version is 1.4.

Activity Plan (6) 14. To promote closer liaison with Women in Engineering (Bernadette and Jenni). Apply for WIE funding to host joint WCI/WIE events – completed for IEEE FUZZ Bernadette presented the WCI activity at the recent in-person WIE meeting in Atlanta (May 2013). Bernadette as a member of the Region 8 Women in Engineering committee, is co-organizing a meeting during the IEEE CIVEMSA 2013 conference, to be held in Milan in July, gathering region 8 WIE and WCI. Jenni presented the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) WIE group activity report 15. Sub-committee members to promote WCI in their own IEEE Chapters (ALL). on-going

Planned Activities 2013 and Beyond
Joint Reception WCI and Women in Engineering at IEEE FUZZ 2013, India Organisers: Dr Bernadette Bouchon-Meunier, Dr Keeley Crockett currently working with Dr. Vijaya Lata (Chair of the WIE AG) and Dr. Kumar (Secretary of the Hyderabad Section and Chair of the IEEE CIS, HYD, Section) to plan this event which will be held during the conference. At IEEE FUZZ the following special sessions were proposed: SS-8: Applications of Fuzzy Systems in Education and Disability to Benefit Society Organizers: Bernadette Bouchon-Meunier and Keeley Crockett SS-15: Fuzzy Natural Language Processing Kiyota Hashimoto, Joao Paulo Carvalho, and Keeley Crockett Facilitate cross fertilization of ideas across Society sub-committees and enable members to get more involved and contribute towards growth of society. WCI e-newsletter - will move to delivery each quarter Proposing a number of Special sessions at WCCI 2014 by WCI sub-committee members.
