SKYLIGHTS WHAT? Skylights are openings in a ceiling and roof that allow for venting and natural lighting WHY? Skylights do not only help vent VOC’s, and help circulate air throughout the house, but they also allow natural lighting to enter where it is most commonly deflected. Students also perform better in environments that are lit with natural, rather than artificial light, according to the Heschong Mahone Group. SKYLIGHTS SUMMARY The room benefits are infinite. Skylights bring in natural light, in a more private representation. Skylights eliminate VOC’s that can be harmful to our health. Skylights have shown to improve human performance in schooling and in the work place. Studies show that proper lighting helps keep our circadian rhythm (internal clock) on schedule. Casement windows that are only at eye level do create a cross breeze, but do not allow for heat to rise up and out of the home.

Skylights in the Summer:
In the summer, skylights will allow built up heat to rise up and out, but also allows cool air to flow into the room. Skylights in the Winter: In the winter, skylights should be closed to keep heat inside the home. Most skylights come with the option to have blinds installed, but during the winter months, sunlight can enter and provide some heat.

Sun tunnels are also a great way to bring natural lighting into a home
Sun tunnels are also a great way to bring natural lighting into a home. Instead of using an actual skylight, this products will carry the suns rays through the roof, and to the desired area.
