BENEFITS If students qualify for dual enrollment with STC, UTPA or UT Onramps, then: Students may begin taking classes as early as their sophomore year. Students may take 6 hours (2 courses) a semester Student may begin their college careers as sophomores or juniors and minimize the expense of a college education Most courses are transferable to the college of their choice in Texas Students may also go to the college/university and participate in free tutoring and other student support services
8
Financial Benefits Cost Benefits of Dual Enrollment: STC UTPA UT
Regular college student (6 hours) $1000 $2025 $3600 $0 $0 $0 _______________________________________________________ Savings after 2 years in HS $4000 $8100 $14,400 (6 hours each semester) *No financial aid is available for students in high school taking dual enrollment *Students are responsible for books if they take the course off campus independently

POINTS TO CONSIDER Once you have taken college courses your college GPA officially begins and may carry forward wherever you go once you graduate high school Courses dropped and/or failed could potentially affect your financial aid status at the college/university you plan to attend (called Satisfactory Academic Progress or SAP) Some pre-medical school programs do not want students beginning college with too many high school credits Important to pick the dual enrollment program that fits with your academic goals
10

Students can earn an unlimited amount of college credits while in high school. High school grade is awarded on high school transcript. Student has the opportunity to accept or decline credit before it is awarded on a college transcript. Students are able to take as many courses as they want.
