Dear Parents/Carers, It’s February: the month of love and valentines and very chilly temperatures. Some places have experienced record-breaking cold this winter. So what better topic to focus this newsletter on than warmth? Forest Schools Due to the forecast of gales last week our first session had to be slightly amended to ensure the safety of all. It was a great opportunity for the children to consider how effective their choice of clothing was in keeping them warm during their time outside. Snuggly clothing - They all agreed that more consideration had to be paid to keeping their legs and feet warm. Hot drinks - Along with their packed lunch we recommend packing a warm drink such a hot chocolate or soup. Winter woollies – Hats, scarfs and gloves are vital to keep the children cosy. We do have spares sets in school should the children forget. Baking Competition Well done to all families who took part in the Johnshaven Bake Off! Special thanks go to Mia and Mollie Mason, who stepped in, at the last minute, with their Grandma to represent Johnshaven School. Your cake was fantastic given the incredibly short notice and you were deserved winners! IPT We would like to welcome Sandra Millar, Intervention and Prevention Teacher, to the school team. Adverse Weather Information: Do not call school. Tel: Pin number: Or check Aberdeenshire School Closures website

I am excited to hear your plans for the library including cosy furniture to relax and read, and a story telling lunchtime slot. Vision Thanks to all parents who have contributed their views on our vision for Johnshaven School. We shall now look at responses from all staff, pupils and families to write a meaningful vision statement that best represents our school community. Burns Poetry Recital Well done to all children who learned a Scot’s Poem for our visitors from The Stonehaven (Fatherland) Burns Club. Every child gave an impressive performance making the judging very difficult. Congratulations to all who were chosen to represent Johnshaven School at the Mini Burns Supper. A special congratulations to Summer Grant, who won the school trophy. Fundraising Are you interested in helping out with fundraising but feel you don’t have time to join a committee? A group of parents are meeting on Monday 19th February at 7pm CONFIRM VENUE Friends of Johnshaven School The next Friends of Johnshaven meeting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 27th 7pm in school. This meeting will focus on school developments. All parents are welcome to contribute to this meeting. If there is anything you would like raised please do contact: or talk to the committee members directly. School Security Whilst we all actively promote a warm and welcoming environment in school may I gently remind all parents that they must report to the office before entering the classrooms, during the school day. This is mainly to ensure the safety of all staff and pupils in school however learning can be greatly disrupted when parents appear in class during lesson time. Thank you all for your co-operation with this essential guidance.
