1 ROTHER CLASS The Team: Mrs Ager Mrs Fabb-Seeley
It is important that we all work together to support your child’s learning so do speak to me if you have questions or concerns. The office can make appointments for you and I am around at the end of the day.

3 (SATs – week beginning 13th May)
In years 5 and 6, your child will continue to experience a wide range of texts and types of writing. The requirements for grammar in the National Curriculum will be covered through our key texts and a variety of reading activities. Expectations in the curriculum are high and children will be encouraged to apply all of their knowledge when writing in all subjects. Key Texts: The Atlas of Monsters by Stuart Hill & Sandra Lawrence (SATs – week beginning 13th May)

4 Spellings Spelling patterns and rules will be taught in class:
National Curriculum using No Nonsense spelling programme for Year 5 & 6 Spelling homework – National Curriculum KS2 word lists Spellings will be assessed formatively through a range of activities in class. Summative spelling tests will take place less frequently as we want to focus on spelling in context and application of spelling patterns and rules.

5 Reading Children are responsible for ensuring they have a reading book in school. Books can be from home, the library or book corner. It would be great if children could read from a range of genres and text types. Reading journals – these will be used for any class based or homework reading activities (back of book) and general reading records/comments (front of book). It is hoped that these can then provide a wider range of reading evidence for assessment purposes as well as develop a journey of reading that the children can reflect on. I would like to see at least three reading comments a week which should form part of the ‘Reading Rockets Weekly 5’. Please do record any comments about your child’s reading which you would feel are useful for us to know in school.

6 Application and reasoning
In years 5 and 6 our aim is to ensure that children extend their knowledge of the number system and place value gained in previous years. We will also be encouraging them to make connections between multiplication and division to support them in the more complex aspects of the maths curriculum such fractions and decimals. Application and reasoning Your children will have lots of opportunity to apply their maths knowledge – we are keen for them to become confident mathematicians who are willing to take risks. Problem solving and investigative maths will be a feature of their learning.

7 Homework Homework will be set on Friday to be handed in the following Thursday. Values homework at the beginning of each half term where the children will be given a task related to our Christian value. Weekly homework will focus on spellings, maths and writing. Times Table Challenge. Topic homework: termly task to be presented to class.

8 Behaviour, rules and rewards
We are working hard to ensure that children recognise they are responsible for their own behaviour. School Golden Rules Class charter Table of the week Raffle

9 Thank you for coming along today; we are looking forward to working with you and your children 
